Transplant

Today is Shanean's bone marrow transplant - it is starting about now (10.00am). It sounds a little more dramatic than what it is. They put her harvested cells back into her via a drip. This all happens in her hosptial room and there is no operation

We have been warned that she may smell for a couple of days because of the preservatives that the stells have been kept in - sour milk or fish smell coming out of her skin.

This round of chemo which finished on Saturday was worse than the other sessions. As the chemo attacks the stomach lining she got very bad indigestion/stomach cramps on top of the nausea.

After the treatment cycle they sent her home for a couple of hours yesterday which was good for her. By the time I took her back to the hospital she was feeling much better - she is also in her own room which makes a huge difference. She can put some things up on the wall and make it feel a little more lived in and has her own fridge and microwave

She may be able to go home for a couple of hours today as well. She is pysically feeling OK for now but is dreading the period about 8-10 days from now when her white blood cells are expected to hit zero for a few days. This is when she feels the worst, but once the cells start growing back they are expected to double each day so she will hopefully come out of it nice and fast
