Shanean had to go back into hospital yesterday - she became quite sick and ended up with a fever which is serious for chemo patients as their immunity is impaired. Like clockwork this has come on around 10 days after her last cycle which is when the white blood cells are at there lowest
she rang the hospital at about 500pm telling them her systems and they told her to go to emergency straight away. We took her up and see was classified a "category 2" meaning she has to see a doctor within 10 minuites. See was sent to a resuscitation bed with all the heart monitors and ventilation machines as seen on all the medical shows and was wired up straight away - it all seemed a little excessive but they have to follow standard procedures - at least we didn't have to wait around in a dodgy waiting room for hours.
She had all her bloods done and a mobile chest x-Ray to see if there is any infection - she was all clear on that front but her white blood cells and platelletes were all very low and she was aneamic so she was put in an isolation room to wait for a bed on the ward to become available
today she is still very sick and is having a blood and platellete transfusion and will be on iv antibiotics and fluids for a couple of days. Being the second time this has happened (ie hospitalization) it's a bit more routine - and if it's the same as last time she seems to recover as quickly as she deteriorates so we could probably expect her home by Monday or Tuesday next week
Good to hear no infection, but she must be feeling god damn awful, poor little mite.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update xx
