Been a while since the last update - but thankfully not too much to report. They let Shanean home last Friday and she had a nice weekend, bit weary but not too bad.
She is approaching the bottom of this cycle now (blood counts) and hopefully it wont be as nasty as last time - she has minor cold-like symptoms but all under control
Today she went for the first check up of this in-between treatment cycles and the bloods were fine - its the second check up (Friday) that should be the absolute bottom so if we get through that its a bit of a milestone
Next Monday will be another check up and if all goes well the next Wednesday after that will be the stem cell harvest. To do this she will sit in a chair and they will pull blood (plus stem cells) out of one arm and put the blood back (minus stem cells) in the other arm. These will be put on ice and then the last chemo of this cycle will be administered - the one that kills off all the bone marrow in her system and will then be replaced with by putting the harvested stem cells back
She will have her own private hospital room for the transplant which will be nice. When Celeste and Joel were born there the private rooms include: ensuite, cable TV, fridge and sofa lounge - all with city views.
Granny and Pumpy
Whilst the last few weeks sound tough - they have been made much less so due to a couple of grandparents holding the fort - Pumpy (Shayne's dad) was down the first week we found out Shanean was sick again and helped a lot with the move to the new house and getting into the new routine. Granny (Shanean's mum) has been here the last few weeks and as a result the house is spotless, kids are fed, Celeste goes to daycare, I continue to go to work and, best of all, Shanean has her mum here. Lief vir jou Granny en baie baie dankie
