If you were to ask Shanean how she felt this week she wouldnt be able to dress it up too much - she felt like crap. She explains it as the feeling you have when you have food poisoning
Things turned around a little on Thursday afternoon though when she started feeling a bit better and has slowly recovered since.
Today she had to go to the hospital to get the white blood cells checked as this is the time when they are at their nadir. The tests are OK and they told her that the cells are beginning to increase again which would explain why she is feeling a bit better.
She still has a sore throat, ears and headache from that flu of last week so they gave her antibiotics to take
As an added bonus this morning when she drove to the hospital she crashed my car....actually, she crashed my new car. I was unaware another side effect of chemo is loss of driving skills
she is very lucky she has cancer............
Anyway, in other news of the week, we have a new hairstyle for her. The leukemia foundation of Australia offer a free wig service for blood cancer patients. Brand new wigs donated by the wig industry. A great service and even if she gets bored of the current style she can go and get a new one any time. Her wig is locked in a secure location until required
She rang a few wig places and one of them will buy her existing hair if she cuts it off and sends it in a plait through the mail. I will not be attending the post office as she hands that over the counter for delivery
Tomorrow we are both flying up north to Grafton to get the babies and see if they will actually come back with us. Celeste calls mum and dad's backyard "a park" - such is the side effects of raising a child in the inner city in a house with only a courtyard.
We are staying until Wednesday
To the best of my memory the conversations went something like this
ReplyDelete1)” Mum is Dad home?”- Yes Shayne why?
“No reason I just want to talk to him”
Don – “Buzzard (a term of endearment from my husband) Shayne and I are just going out”
Me – “where are you going”
Don – “Oh just to the back road to Junction Hill”
Me – “why are you going there”
Don – “Oh Shayne has put his car through the fence”
2) Shayne has borrowed my car and is in Lismore - Phone rings I answer “Is that you Mum?” (I wonder what other female adult lives in this house) “Yes Shayne”
“Its me Mum Shayne” (yes I know that having heard his voice for 18yrs at this stage and the other kids still live at home) –“is Dad home?
“no why?”
Oh I just wanted to talk to Dad for a minute
Well he isn’t home what’s the matter?”
“Well er Mum um er you know the Mitsubishi?” –( well yes I do know the Mitsubishi it is my car) – Yes mate what’s wrong with the Mitsubishi?
“well er um I have had a bit of an accident with a Mills Truck (as if being able to describe the truck makes it better)
“what happened” are you Ok”
Yes I am ok but the stupid Mills truck stopped at a stop sign and I stopped too but then it went again and I went too but it stopped and I couldn’t so I ran into him.
“So you were traveling too close behind him do you think”
No Mum it was the stupid driver he stopped twice!!
3) Shayne now has another of my cars in Sydney
Phone rings “is that you Mum” – yes Shayne how are you?
“Mum its Shayne here “!!!
Yes Shayne what’s happening
Is Dad Home? ( I should have learned by now that “is Dad home” had an ominous meaning )
No
Mum do you know if the Honda is insured”
Yes it is Why?
Mum do you have the insurance papers?
Yes Shayne I do why?
“Well I was following a stupid Taxi and he stopped suddenly and I ran into him”
“Were you too close behind him Shayne?”
“No Mum all the Taxi drivers are stupid down here none of them can drive”
“Well if you are ok it doesn’t matter how much damage to the car?
“Mum it’s a write off!!
And he didn’t have cancer
Nah! Shanean I would not give the car a second thought
Moggi
Mothers have LONG memories!
