Shanean's sister (Christene) and Dad (Jannie) were due to land in Sydney at 2.00pm today, however, the volcano in Chile has put a stop to that. The plane took off from Johannesburg but then Sydney airport was closed due to the volcanic ash cloud.
Their plane has now been diverted to Brisbane (a mere 1,000kms north of Sydney) and we arent sure what will happen then (they are due to land at 8.20pm). All flights to and from Sydney were cancelled for tomorrow as well but the latest news is that it will re-open at 2.00pm
Christene's appointment at the hospital to start the transplant therapy was tomorrow, so this has to be cancelled which will then delay the transplant as well presumably.
Hopefully Qantas will fly the whole plane down from Sydney tomorrow, but the biggest concern is that they will rebook all the passengers on domestic flights and it might take days to clear the backlog.
I asked Qantas on their facebook page what was happening, and whilst they did reply promptly, the answer was "we dont know yet"
