Soap opera

A bit of an eventful day yesterday. Shanean went for the checkup at the hospital ward and the tests showed that her blood platelletes were too low so they had to give her a transfusion - it's done via an iv drip and only took half an hour or so after which they sent her home

all was fine until about 500pm when she was struck by severe pain starting in her back and radiating around the pelvis into the groin. The pain was so intense her mum had to call an ambulance to take her to hospital as I was on the train picking celeste up from daycare.

The daycare centre is near the hospital so I went straight to the hospital to meet her as the ambulance arrived (with Celeste and her Barbie schoolbag in tow) as a lucky coincidence my brother was driving nearby and also came up - being a paramedic he knew the system and was able to get an ambulance officer at the hospital to distract Celeste so she didn't see her mum arrive.

Shanean was admitted straight to the sub acute ward (no dodgy waiting rooms) and she was given morphine for the pain fairly quickly. After seeing many doctors and returning normal blood results they could not determine what was wrong with her - pain is not a side effect of blood transfusions so they rang the haemotology ward and she was admitted up there at about 300am

this morning we are still none the wiser what happened - the abdominal pain has subsided but has been replaced by a strong migrane which has brought on nausea. She has had an xray this morning and is on iv antibiotics. The suspicion is that she has some sort of infection brought on by the low bloods. She also has a mild fever which is another infection sign

so it was a good few days at home but now it's back to the hospital - the nurse said it will be a minimum of 2 days this time. She is in the bed exactly opposite of where she was last week - fast asleep now which is good
