One step forward...

I left Shanean at the hospital today to sleep (fully reclined) at about 200pm. As soon as I got home Celeste's day care phoned. Celeste was sick with a fever and needed to be picked up

We picked her up and she was very pale and obviously sick. She vomited in her grandparents car and again when she got home.

Got an appointment at the doctors (which was co-incidently the same doctor who first told Shanean she had lymphoma) and turns out Celeste has tonsilitis - the contagious one

Normally a 2 year old with tonsilitis is not a big deal - get some antibiotics and move on. Problem for us is that Shanean is due to come home from hospital and has a low immune system due to the chemo.

All the doctors are adamant that Celeste be quarantined from Shanean for at least 7 days to avoid the risk of Shanean getting an infection.

This will be all too difficult to do here so we have decided to send the kids back to Grafton with their grandparents for a week or so.

Shanean is still trying to decide which is worse. Being told you have cancer or giving up the kids for 10 days

So they are leaving in the morning, they are allowed to come up to the hospital first to say goodbye to Shanean, but they all have to wear surgical masks - nice

  1. Hi Shayne
Thanks a million for your feedback! I would not have survived without this daily! I feel like I'm going through this whole process with you guys, obviously not to the extend that you are. Just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm glad Shanean is more comfortable and almost relieved that the kids are going away so that they can't make her sick. I was worried about that. I know it's difficult for her to send them away..... shame. But there's no other way.
Send my love and thoughts to Shanean and good luck.
    Love, Colette

  3. Hi! I am Annamie Carstens from Cape Town. Colette phoned me and so I have heard about you. I was also diagnosed with Non Hodgins Lymphoma in July 2002 when I was 35 years old, with 2 daugthers - then 9 and 3 years old. It is now 7 years later, with no sign of the cancer! I am 100% healthy - I do not even have to go for check ups any more! They say that if you have to choose a cancer - it will be Non Hodgins Lymphoma as it is one of the cancers that can be beaten totally, without coming back to you at a later stage. I am a cancer buddy, belonging to an organisation called People Living With Cancer and I know a lot of cancer patients who are survivors - especially lymphoma survivors. Please tell your wife that it can be beaten and the 6 months of treatment is a small price to pay for having a healty life further. And her hair will grow again!
My e-mail address is annamie@sataxservices.com should you want to contact me.
