Chemo Schmemo

Another week has past since the 2nd Chemo session and it still has been much better than the first time around. Shanean has not really had any nausea and the side effects have been limited to weakness and fatigue, which peaked around the weekend. This is the time when the white blood cells are at their lowest (7-10 days) so it all makes some sort of sense

The bald head is completely normal now - she hasnt even bothered with the wig. For those not from Sydney we live in a part of the city which contains a lot of "alternative" type people. She took a walk down the main street last week with her shiny bald head and didnt even get a second look from anyone. There are plenty of people with bald heads around here by choice so she fits right in

Shanean's dad flies back to Cape Town today, I have eaten and drunk well during his stay. In between going to Pearl Jam rock concerts, band nights, local pubs and cafes and walking a lot I reckon we might get Jannie back for another visit

Shanean's next chemo is big one. After the next session (scheduled for next Friday 11/12/09) she has to go for another scan. This is the one that officiallly tells us that things are working. A good scan means that there are no more active cancer cells - there still may be tumors but as long as the cancer cells are dead this is a sign of success. The subsequent chemo sessions will then be for preventative purposes assumedly

  1. Hi there. I'm soooo glad to hear Shanean is still feeling good. I need to see her with her bald head. Shayne, see if you can take a picture and e-mail it to me (don't have to post it here!). I'm also glad Jannie enjoyed it! This trip will make him feel much better about the whole situation. Thanks again for the info here. I see Shanean is getting "lazy" to e-mail, must be the tiredness of the chemo - so, it's nice to get an update every now and again.
Thinking of you all the time! Hugs and kisses to Shanean and children.
    Love
    Colette
