Friday's is clinic days at the RPA Haematology department so it is quite busy. We were apparently lucky to get an appointment so soon.
When we were called up we spoke to the Registrar. She was very good and as soon as she saw Shanean's scans she quickly organised lots of tests the following week. She confirmed again that it was probably Lymphoma. Prof Joshua came in later in the session and said it was 99% chance of lymphoma and the treatment for this would be Chemotherapy.
The tests that she had to go for next week were
CT guided biopsy (Monday).
To get a piece of the growth out of her to examine under the microscope
Bone Marrow Biopsy (Tuesday).
To see if the cancer is in her blood and/or bone marrow
PET scan (Thursday).
To see if the cancer is anywhere else in her body
Heart scan (Friday). To test the strength of her heart, as Chemo is a strain on the heart. This is more of a routine procedure that is more relevant for older people
We were then booked in again the following Friday at the Haematology unit where the results would be presented back to us.
